two and a half

Ryan is growing so quickly... He holds dynamic conversations with adults and his "grown up" words and concepts surprise me! This morning he said, "Mama, would you please join me while I eat my yogurt?" How can I resist that!?

They aren't all grown up words though! He still says alligator: ow-grah-grey-tor. And music is: muke-sic. And the latest is he makes up words for things he doesn't know the name for. This weekend he found some moss outside and said, "Look at this fuzz-grass I found!" And yesterday he called a fly swatter a flash-bugger.

At two and a half, he loves his tools and tool box, is interested in what I'm cooking and likes to help stir/mix, is trying to share his toys with his crawling sister, knows how to apologize, enjoys books and often "reads" to himself until he falls asleep, is a snuggle bug, will eat carrots with hummus, is a big fan of Curious George, likes to pull weeds and work in the garden, can count to 11, can almost sing the ABC's, hums everywhere he goes and can put on his own shoes. He also eats ketchup like it is it's own food group, has an incredible (almost scary) memory, doesn't like his picture taken and would stay in his pj's all day if he were allowed to.

Rob and I are having so much fun! It is bitter-sweet watching him self-correct his words, outgrow his pants and start using phrases like, "will you please join me?" and "I hurt my finger but it's okay, it will get better. It will heal."

Looking ahead, we've decided that in the fall he will start preschool. It's just a couple of hours, three days a week. We're also heading back for more swimming lessons this spring/summer and may sign up for some additional music classes again too.
