Quick update

The last few weeks have brought back to back colds for mama and Ashlyn, a touch of a cold for Ryan, AND a staph infection in Rob's throat! We've been a bunch of sickies! We're all better now (or very close) and are looking forward to getting back in the swing of things.

Ashlyn had a routine doctor's visit last week and is a lightweight! Weighing 17 pounds, she is at 13.65% of growth percentile based on weight-for-age. Her height was in the 20-30% (they measured wrong, so I'm not sure what exact percentile she is). She is "rocking" on all fours and getting ready to crawl. Rob thinks she's close to putting a couple of words together too...can I hear a "mama"?

Ryan is great! We're working on some "love and logic" parenting with him and it is proving effective. We have naturally been practicing most of the L & L theories, but it works even better when you're being more intentional and consistent. The premise for Love and Logic is pretty much: Give your child choices, enforce consequences, and never lose your cool. So, we offer a few choices, put the decision-making into his hands as much as we can and take away the opportunity to get into a power struggle. It does work. It just takes patience, persistence, consistency, and discipline.

We are also mourning the loss of Rob's Uncle PJ. He passed suddenly on Friday and we have been reminiscing a lot about the recent times we have shared with him.

For those of you not in the Pacific NW, we are enjoying a gorgeous, sun-kissed day. I'll get some updated photos soon as I'm sure we'll be outside playing all week until the rain begins again this weekend.

Lastly, we packing our bags for a trip to see the "CA Brakke Family" soon. We're thrilled to get to spend time with them and are looking forward to going to Palm Springs, Disneyland, and hopefully getting some sunshine.

Ahhh, little lightweight Ashlyn! How different our girls are! Be thankful she hasn't been crawling yet... Lilah's been on the go for a couple months now and I have my hands full! Geez.

Glad you're all feeling better! It's sure going around.

Did you take a Love & Logic class, or is there a book? I've been really interested in it for awhile, and could've taken a class through my district, but the times weren't great. Anyway, glad it's working!
